Jelly Roll is rolling intoAmerican Idol but not as a judge.
He also performed his song “Halfway to Hell” during his appearance.
Roll announced the news in a goofy promo video withIdolhost Ryan Seacrest.

“I’mAmerican Idol’s artist in residence!”
he said as he picked Seacrest up off the ground and spun him around like a small child.
“I feel like I’m giving them the energy they need.

Seacrest seemed to enjoy being swept off his feet.
“I like it.
It feels good when you helicopter me,” he said.
“I need you every day.”
Jelly Roll’sIdolgig follows the busiest year of his career thus far.
American Idolseason 23 premieres Sunday, March 9 on ABC.
A preview of the season will air after the Oscars on March 2.
