Nash-Betts also took a moment to remember victims of police violence.

In the press room after receiving her trophy, Nash-Betts elaborated on why she thanked herself.
“I’m the only one who knows what it cost me,” she said.
And you still have to go home [because] you have children and a whole life.
So, I’m proud of myself.
I’m proud that I did something that people said I could not do because I believed in me.
Sometimes people don’t believe in themselves.
Sometimes you’ve got to take care of what?
It’s not called ‘them esteem,’ ‘us esteem.’
It’s called ‘self-esteem’ because don’t nobody got to believe it but you."
