She is alive somewhere in the post-apocalyptic outside world.
Or, at least, that’s what Sinatra (Julianne Nicholson) tells him anyway.
“Xavier still questions the messenger,” Brown notes of the revelation.

“Xavier has deep hate for Sinatra right now.
STERLING K. BROWN:Oh gosh.
What’s a bigger bombshell?

That my father had a brother that he never told us anything about for his whole life.
And then come to find out that there’s this person who is alive and well and existing?
He most recently allowed himself to have an amorous connection with someone.
In part because now it’s time for him to move on with the next phase of his life.
The person who is your heart, who is your right arm is still there for Xavier.'
That’s the bigger one.
But just by a little bit.
In terms of this information, what might Xavier do with it?
That’ll present a real moral quandary.
That would present a moral quandary, wouldn’t it?
Then it’s chaos.
And control is Sinatra’s game.
She doesn’t thrive in chaos.
As far as Xavier is concerned, any deals with Sinatra feel like deals being made with the devil.
The bigger moral thing for him is, ‘Does he take his kids?
Does he not take his kids?
If it comes to that, does he leave them behind?
Who does he leave them behind with?’
That’s crazy because we already saw when it came time at the tarmac to get on the plane.
It’s a little bit different scenario, but I think he’s got to find her.
Scientifically, there’s probably some truth to that.
So not knowing is the thing that drives that.
Xavier hears different voices on the tape recorder, so the proof of life is now there.
It’s not a matter of, ‘Is it possible?’
‘Is my wife one of those people who could be alive amongst them?’
Xavier’s already been feeling survivor’s remorse.
Because there’s always in the front of his mind that we’re living in a cage.
Xavier now knows who killed Billy and what happened, but there’s still this outstanding question of Cal.
Sinatra says that it’s somebody from outside.
She’s got him in the worst possible scenario.
He has to find out who did it to keep his family intact.
So he is as invested in that.
If he knew that, that would probably cause a whole different level of hysteria from him.
Yeah, things were not looking great for his kids at the end there.
Are they in real danger?
Would Jane (Nicole Brydon Bloom) kill a child?
Jane starts off literally like plain Jane, very sweet and wholesome.
That’s the way she’s supposed to function in our narrative right now.
Sinatra tells her to go and find the daughter.
She comes up with this whole B.S.
And it’s like, ‘Oh God, are you going to do something to this girl?
To this little girl?’
We as an audience are incredibly wary of what Jane could do.
This whole stunt that was going on.
How will the rest of the people in Paradise react?
They have been introduced to some of these secrets.
Xavier knows more, but they’re not completely in the dark anymore.
If we’re all going to do this again, then we have to do it together.
He’s at a place where lying is not of benefit to anyone.
Especially if you don’t allow anyone to leave that cage.
It can’t last forever.
At some point in time, things have to shift.
What can you tease about the finale?
You find out who kills the president.
We’ve met said person, I can tease that.
I will be in season 2, so there’s a tease.
You know what I’m saying?
The brother makes it through to the end.
We know now through the video recordings that Sinatra shares with Xavier that life exists.
There will be an exploration of what life will be like beyond Paradise, beyond our compound.
And then one of the driving questions for season 2 will be, ‘Is Xavier’s wife alive?’
